Today a leak came from multiple sources saying that the beloved “twins” production will come to a halt after this year. Subaru said they have done nothing but lose money since they joined with Toyota, and is more interested in focusing on it’s legendary Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive systems. Subaru says switching to a rear-wheel drive platform was a mistake, and that 89% of BRZ owners though they were buying an All Wheel Drive car until they couldn’t get out of an inch of snow.

This is certainly sad news for everyone in the car community, and even more so for the enthusiasts who were holding out for the BRZ STi, or a Turbocharged FRS. It looks like that day will never come.

Scion says they enjoyed working with Subaru, but after all the accidents from minors, they’re going back to the drawing board in order to reduce accidents for drivers under the age of 22, and designing something “less enjoyable.”

RIP Subaru BRZ, Scion FRS, Toyota GT86.
