I have been working with HID for a long time, they are fine in most projectors, all hid kits are prone to failure, mainly the bulb. You can replace just the bulbs or ballasts and most "decent" sellers will warranty them. Check out ddm tuning, they make good kits for less than the price of a pair of silverstars halogen. 4300 K is the brightest, past that output suffers, and remember, the projectors optics will affect the "color'. 55 watt kits are to hot to use in projectors or small housings.
