    EJ25 Swap Impreza?

    hey guys.

i was wondering if you could swap an EJ25 into an Impreza that never had the 2.5L ?

now i have put an EJ22 into a 99 outback installed like as if it was an EJ25, 1 minor issue avoided was the y-pipe now 96+ EJ22's have single port heads, i installed an older EJ22 that has dual port like an EJ25.

so could this be done backwards ? eJ25 into an EJ22 or EJ18 Impreza?

Not this is the 1999 Legacy Outback that originally had an EJ25

Its almost a direct swap. There are a few minor differences along the way, but you already know all of them since you have done a 2.2 swap into an Outback.

The Legacy 2.2 cars share the same engine/electronics as Impreza 2.2 cars......and same with the 2.5s.

The only thing I would recommend doing is swaping in the 2.5 ECU with the 2.5 engine. The 2.5 ECU has better fuel mapping, and it doesn't have the rev limiter like the 2.2 ECU....but its not nessicary to do.

Here is a FAQ I wrote for the second gen Legacy, but the info crosses over to your Impreza as well.

Here is a list of non-turbo engines that can be fitted to any BD, BG, or BK Legacy. If an older non-OBDII engine is used, some modifications must be made for OBDII sensors.

The 253 has variable lift and drive by wire...so you would have to make nessicary accomidations.
