    Fuel System Issue

    Hi Folks,

I hope you can help me.

Just bought 2006 Baja Sport. 53K miles.

It has been sitting in a lot for many years. New battery, Spark Plugs, and Oil. Added gas + 2 bottles of Sea Foam.

Started up. Got CEL code P0463.

The gas gauge was staying on E.

Replaced Fuel Pump motor and filter - on passenger's side and sock/prefilter.

Replaced Drivers Side Secondary Fuel Level Sending Unit + new filter.

    CEL went out.

Runs fine when the tank is full.

Fuel gauge now works but: when gauge drops to 3/4 tank, the engine runs like crap like it is about to run out of gas, backfiring but there is plenty in the tank.

It had some very old gas in it.

    What do you think?

Thanks in advance for any help!

So does the fuel gauge not work correctly?

    Re: Fuel System Issue

I am thinking the gauge is working OK, but when it reaches 3/4 full then it acts like it is running out of gas, but I go to fill and tank only takes like 4 gallons.

    Tank capacity is 16.9.

So maybe from the car sitting so long, the scrap at bottom of the tank has clogged the new filter.

I forgot to mention I replaced "in-tank filter"- part of Fuel Pump Assembly when I replaced fuel pump motor.

You are going to have to drop the tank to see what is going on.
