To stir up an old thread.. I have a similar situation. I picked up a 2000 outback 2.5 with a bad rod knock and have a 1995 legacy 2.2 that runs great but has a bad transmission. I'm wanting to put the 2.2 into the outback.
anything that I really need to watch out for?

I know there are some wiring differences and sensor differences. Also you will have to use the ej22 ecu. There are quite a bit of changes from the OBD1 of the 95 to the OBD2 of the 2000.
